Press Release for Immediate Action
In Defense
of the Democratic Rights of the People of Eastern Kurdistan
For the past three weeks and after a peaceful demonstration in commemoration of
Dr. Qassemlu Eastern Kurdistan has fallen under the increased pressure of
Iranian security forces. The recently inaugurated Iranian President, Ahmedinajad,
who allegedly had been involved in assassination of Dr. Qassemlu and a number of
other opposition leaders, has warned that the Kurdish experience in Iraq is a
threat to Islam and can not be tolerated in Iran. To make their point clear, the
security forces recently interrogated, tortured, and shot a young Kurdish
activist, Mr Shwane Qaderi, then dragged him behind a truck on the streets of
the city of Mahabad. Regime's brutal suppression extended to most Kurdish towns
and villages. Hundreds of people have been imprisoned and tortured. So far 20
people have been killed including a 13 and 16 years old boys.
Apparently in order to create an atmosphere of terror, Ahmadinijad plans to
utilize any method of oppression. His actions are indicative of his potential
threat not only to Kurds but to the world
peace. The Kurdish American Education Society urgently appeals to all peaceful
and responsible individuals and organizations to protest the inhumane actions
conducted by the Islamic Republic of Iran in Eastern Kurdistan.
The outcome of the delayed diplomatic intervention by the international
community has led to many crimes against humanity including mass deportation,
genocide, mass graves, and total elimination of thousands of villages in
Southern Kurdistan under Saddam’s presidency. We now urge the international
communities to act on time to prevent recurrence of such crimes in Iranian
Kurdistan under the like-minded president of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
We urgently ask for your immediate action to call on the United Nations and the
government of the United States to prevent yet another act of genocide and
terror against the defenseless people of Kurdistan. We welcome the support of
all democratic and peace loving people of the world in defense of the basic
human rights of the Kurds in Iran.
