The Prime Minister Erdogan: The
Kurdish Problem Is My Problem First Of All
Aug 12, 2005
DIYARBAKIR (DIHA) - During his visit to
Diyarbakir, the prime minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the
Kurdish problem is his problem and that they will solve the problem within the
bounds of constitutional system and the principles of the republic, with more
democracy, citizenship rights and welfare.
Addressing the Kurdish case, he said: "As one nation on one country under one
flag, the Kurdish problem is our problem and will be solved with more democracy.
We do not disregard any problem because to disregard the problems is disrespect
to our saint society. We take all the problems into consideration and we are
ready to face with them. So I am addressing to those asking 'what will the
Kurdish problem happen'; the Kurdish problem is my problem first of all."
The Prime Minister Erdogan gave his public speech in front of the mass housing
blocks built by Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKI). He claimed
that their government removed the discrimination between the regions and the
races. "Diyarbakir bears the same importance with Istanbul, Ankara, Konya,
Samsun and Erzurum." said he.
'There were faults in past'
Claiming that every country makes mistakes, he said: "As a huge country Turkey
has undergone many difficulties so far. To disregard the mistakes committed in
the past does not suit such a huge country. To be a big nation is possible with
not taking the future under mortgage with the cases of the past while
flourishing by facing with the past."
Stating that he had been prisoned as he read a poem but still did not sulk to
the state, he uttered those:
"Thus, every citizen's being regarded as a first class citizen, freedom's to be
the only ruling power and a state of law is both my friends' and my desire."
'The problems are ours'
Pointing out that there were political and administrative mistakes committed in
the past, he claimed that every problem does not require a name.
"Because, the problems are our problems. If you say we should name every problem
necessarily, the Kurdish problem is not related to a part of the country. It is
my problem. The all problems are the problems of the citizens of Turkey no
matter whatever their origin is, namely the problem of Kurds, Circassian, Laz or
Abhaza. The sun heats everybody and the rain is God's grace for everybody. Thus
I am addressing to those asking 'What will the Kurdish problem happen'; the
Kurdish problem is my problem." said the Prime Minister Erdogan.
'Let's end the violence and fight'
Telling that they do not disregard any problem of the country, he continued
his speech as such:
"Our nation deserves the best. Those using the problems of our people to create
an atmosphere of terrorism and violence will find us in front of themselves. The
terrorism and the violence are the biggest enemies of our people. Those killing
our innocent people are trying to use our innocent young to their aims. Thus I
am addressing to you, the fathers and mothers: Make sure that the all
opportunities of the state are ready to rescue your children from this terrorism
trouble. We are the answer to the all problems of the country. The problems
belong to us. We promised we will solve the problems with more democracy, first
class citizenship and welfare. We bring the messages of unity, development and
brotherhood to wherever we go. We are ready to give ear to everybody as long as
we avoid the fight and violence. We believe in the common sense of the people
sharing the same fate. There is no return from democratic expansion."
Three red line
Mentioning to his meeting with the intellectuals 2 days ago, he said: "There
were some politicians who were not pleased with our meeting. Those who can not
put up with freedoms can not talk about freedoms. Those not imbibing that are
bound to dissolve like snowflakes. Those who are sided with discrimination
should know three points. When I set off, I told that I am against three things:
The first is that there is no room for ethnic nationalism. Secondly, there will
not be discrimination between the regions of east, west or south, north. Lastly,
religious nationalism will not exist. We are in equal distance to all. Until the
point we reached, we have done great reforms in politics and law."
'The inhabitants of Diyarbakir will live decently'
Talking about the investment planned to be done in the region and Diyarbakir,
he expressed those:
"We are preparing an encouragement law so that the businessmen of the region
invest to here instead of the west. The land is free and we do not demand taxes.
The SSK (Social Security Institution) premiums will be lover. What can we do
more? Do not become accustomed to be freeloader. We want the businessmen of the
region to invest in the region. We did not leave the public without coal with
the help of the governor and kaimakam. The school books will be again free.
Within the context of support to the agriculture producers we transferred 2
billion 319 million YTL to the east and southeast. We will build an Organized
Industrial Zone in Diyarbakir. Thus the jobless citizens would be employed.
Together with the governor, we are going to finish the water problem of the
villages by the end of the year and the roads of the villages are going to be
covered with asphalt by 2006. The inhabitants of Diyarbakir will live decently."
Erdogan ended his speech with a poem titled as 'I want a country' by Cahit Sıtkı
Tarancı.
