The Kurdish community of London gathered today in Downing
Street in an act of condemnation of the brutal violation of the human rights of
Kurdish people by the Iranian regime. In the last month alone, more than 30
protesters have been murdered and hundreds wounded by Iranian forces in what
Amnesty International calls an alarming cycle of violence.
Hundreds of protesters mounted Downing street to urge the
British Government and the United Nations to take immediate actions to end the
oppression by the Islamic Republic of Iran. A letter was handed in to the Prime
Minister demanding:
- A UN delegation of Human Rights commission to visit Iran and
Kurdistan to Investigate recent events in Kurdistan
- The release of all the people detained by the Islamic
Republic of Iran during the recent protests
- The injured people to be given treatment without any fear of
detention or torture
- An independent inquiry to be launched, to investigate the
recent killings and crackdown of peaceful protesters
The demonstration ended at 6 pm following speeches by Hugo
Charlton, chair of the Green Party, and Sarah Parker of the Kurdish Solidarity
Committee.
