Britain Plans On Opening Consulate In Irbil
IRBIL, July 30 (KUNA) --
British Ambassador to Iraq William Patey said Saturday his country is planning
on opening a British consulate here.
During a meeting with President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani,
Patey reviewed matters related to drafting of the Iraqi constitution, the
government's affairs and security problems, as well as the current situation in
Kurdistan in specific and Iraq in General.
While pointing out his government's wish to open a consulate in Irbil, Patey
stressed Britain's wish to fully implement article 58 of Iraq's Transitional
Administrative Law (TAL).
After congratulating Patey on assuming the position of Ambassador to Iraq,
Barzani lauded the British government's role in supporting the rebuilding of
Iraq through constant development and implementation of TAL's article 58.
The article 58 deals with measures to repair the damage, demographic and
administrative, caused by the former Iraqi regime, as well as granting disputed
territories, including Kirkuk, the right to decide their best interests through
a general census. |
