Irbil-Salahaddin Highway Curves Opened
PNA- July 30, 2005- The fourth stage of
reconstructing Irbil- Salahaddin Highway Curves finished Saturday. The project,
known as Banaman- Salahaddin Highway Project, is one of the greatest projects
funded by the Kurdistan Regional Government. The budget of the project, which
has been completed in one year, was $6.300.000. The length of the constructed
road is 3 Kilometers, with 22 Meters of width, each side 7 Meters wide.
The hardest stage of the work was to explode
about 650 cubic meters of mountain rocks. Work on the project started
effectively in July 15, 2004 and the workers continued working 20 hours per day
seriously.
The opening ceremony was attended by the KRG
ministers of Reconstruction and Municipality, Irbil Governor, as well as several
government and KDP officials Saturday.
“It is a great and strategic project because it solved the great obstacle of the
travelers between the capital and Salahaddin,” said Nawzad Hadi, Irbil Governor,
in a speech to the media at the occasion.
The Governor also told the reporters that they have plans to reconstruct Irbil-
Kasnazan, 10 km east of the capital, and Irbil- Kirkuk highways.
