Press Release
To the Media and Public Opinion
On Sunday December 16, 2007, 50 Turkish jet fighters carried out air strikes on
the civilian Kurdish villages of Lewzhe, Sari Gali, Kurtak, Kalak, Balleyan,
Qala Tuka and Marad in and around Kandil mountain areas in Iraqi Kurdistan from
1:30 to 4:30 a.m. Also the Turkish forces were shelling the border areas with
long range artillery during the attacks. This Turkish aggressive cross border
attack is a violation of Iraq's sovereignty and the international laws.
The bombardment killed a Kurdish woman and wounded other six civilians, damaged
several houses, a school in Qala Tuka and killed about 170 livestock. Two
hundred Kurdish families had fled their homes in villages in the Sankasar and
Jarawa areas.
Iranian artillery shelled PJAK forces and positions in Kandil mountain during
the Turkish air attacks. It is a coordinated aggressive action between Turkey
and Iran against PJAK.
We condemn the Turkish attack on Kandil mountain and consider it an action to
help Iran eliminate the PJAK forces and replace them with Answar Al Islam - Al
Qaada forces. PJAK forces are in control of Kandil mountain and these attacks
are directed at our forces and our struggle against the Islamic Republic of
Iran. The Turkish air attacks and killing of Kurdish civilian is an act of state
terrorism. We are freedom fighters and will defend our Kurdish people and our
land fiercely.
It is a well known fact that the PKK forces are inside Turkey and the
PKK-Turkish conflict is an internal Kurdish–Turkish conflict. The only solution
to the Kurdish issue in Turkey is through peaceful dialogue not war.
We call upon the European Union, the USA, the United Nations and the
international community to condemn and put pressure on Turkey to stop its
aggressive military policies and to solve the Kurdish-Turkish conflict by
peaceful means.
