In a press conference held yesterday, Ayna stated that a group of provocateurs
tried to pull down a Turkish flag outside a state office in Şırnak's Cizre
district during pro-PKK demonstrations on Saturday, which marked the ninth
anniversary of the capture of PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan. "Provocateurs
attempted to attack the Turkish flag to prove the DTP's cause wrong," she said.
Ayna also said that 15-year-old Yahya Menekşe, who was killed
in Cizre during demonstrations by a stone thrown by a fellow protestor, was
crushed to death by an armed combat car as he tried to run from the police.
"The police and security forces often display a violent stance against
protestors in the Turkish-occupied Kurdistan. People are beaten with clubs
during demonstrations. DTP Batman deputy Bengi Yıldız and Batman Mayor Huseyin
Kalkan were also beaten by Turkish security forces on Saturday," she said.
Ayna also referred to Ocalan as "Mr. Ocalan" and the outlawed PKK organization
as "guerrilla."
"Turkey cannot solve the Kurdish problem through air or ground operations into
Iraqi Kurdistan. The government should find alternative ways to give an end to
this problem," she added.
