Only Mountains, Marshlands And Palm Groves
As Friends

Kurds used to believe that they have no friends
in the world and that their only genuine friends were the mountains of
Kurdistan, which provided them with shelter and protection at times of danger.
This perception stemmed from the indifference of the world's public opinion to
their plight during the years of oppression and murdering they suffered under
the regime of Saddam Hussein and his Ba`ath party, even during the gassing of
Halabja in 1988, und the genocides of the Anfall campaigns in 1987-1988 in Iraqi
Kurdistan, when all the world were closing their eyes and turning their heads to
the other side rather than acknowledging those atrocities against innocent
Kurds. I thought then as a Kurd that there must be something wrong with the
Kurds that no body cared about them, when on the other side you see many pages
of newspapers and hours of television broadcasting in the western world were
dedicated to trivialities and personal scandals of actors and actresses or
singers or to beauty contests for dogs and cats, that the people were so much
engulfed in their individualistic and egoistic surpluses, that there was no
place any where for humanity in their souls.
I thought that this indifference was a unique
phenomenon only for Kurds, but after 40 years of misery under different
dictators and in a stroke of turn of events, the American administration headed
by President Bush, decided to free the peoples of
Iraq from the ruthless regime of Saddam Hussein, who spared no section of
Iraqi society from his tyranny and barbaric crimes( although the Kurds and
Shiites had the lion share of it!), the world this time decided not only to
ignore Kurds but all the people of Iraq and
they all turned out to be Anti-Americans and Anti-Iraqis supporting every act of
sabotage and murder committed against innocent Iraqi civilians since the
liberation of Iraq in April 2003. It's
astonishing that not only the neighbouring countries of
Iraq like Iran,
Syria, Saudi Arabia
and Turkey are complacent about the daily
carnage in Iraq, and supporting explicitly or
implicitly terrorist and insurgent activities, but even the entire so-called
Islamic world, all the media, governments and public opinion of western
Europe and the Democratic party supporters of
USA, are almost sadistically enjoying it and
blame the United States for caring to
intervene against ruthless dictators ( didn't I tell you that sort of
attitude!), and relentlessly urging them to leave
Iraq as soon as possible and abandon Iraqis die in their thousands
without any support and deliver Iraq as a
gift to the radical terrorists of the world. So I can say now That not only
Kurds have only mountains as their friends but all the peoples of
Iraq have only the mountains, the marshlands
and the palm groves as their friends.
