Brutal human rights violations in Iranian Kurdistan continues

At least one person killed, several others injured and 30 persons imprisoned in Iranian Kurdistan

In an onslaught against Kurdish civilians and their property in the city of Mahabad, the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran killed Bahman Moradi, a 17 years old young man, and injured several others.

According to local sources, clashes between civilians and the security forces erupted when members of the security forces started to demolish shops in the surroundings of Revolution Square.

The clashes continued until late in the evening.

On February 15, 2007, the Iranian authorities moved over 2000 troupes to Mahabad. Houses and shops in the surroundings of Revolution Square were inspected and then demolished by the security forces. According to the latest news, at least 50 shops were destroyed by the regime.

30 people detained accused of having links with Kurdish organizations

During January 2007, at least 30 individuals, with alleged links to Kurdish organizations, were imprisoned for acts of “jeopardizing the internal security of Iran”.

The following is a list of the names of 28 of those Kurdish individuals that have been sentenced to jail on the grounds of “jeopardizing the internal security of Iran”:

Two people were killed in Miandoab by the Iranian security forces
The security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran opened fire on a civilian car and killed two persons on the Malakan/Miandoab road. The names of victims of this act of state terrorism are Hiwa Nazari and Abdollah Sarkan.

Kurdish teenager sentenced to death

An Iranian court sentenced Hedayat Niroumand, a 15 year old Kurdish boy, to death. The boy is accused of killing his father. The verdict will be implemented when Niroumand has turned 18.

Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan is deeply concerned about the ongoing brutal violence and acts of state terrorism against the Kurdish people in Iranian Kurdistan.

We call upon the International Community and Human Rights Organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch to pay attention to and condemn the Islamic Republic’s policies and campaigns of racist violence in Kurdistan.
