Turkish Generals To Stage
Walkout In Turkish Parliament To Protest Kurdish DTP Deputies
Source:
Aksam, Turkey, July 27, 2007

The centrist, mainstream
Turkish daily Aksam reported that representatives from the Turkish
Armed Forces (TSK) will stage a walkout during the swearing-in ceremony of the
new parliament, to avoid being present during the swearing-in of the Kurdish DTP
deputies – some of whom had expressed support, during their election campaign,
for the PKK organization PKK and its leader Abdullah Ocalan, who is jailed in
Turkey.
The representatives will
leave the hall after the Ankara MPs are sworn in.
Another possible reason for
the walkout is that the TSK representatives fear that the Kurdish MPs could,
during the ceremony, alter the oath of loyalty to Turkey's constitution that
they recite.
