PJAK Releases Iranian Soldier

Media center: Free life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK)
November 6, 2007
Press release

To the Media and Public opinion:

A member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard captured during an encounter between PJAK forces and the Iranian army was released early on Tuesday morning. The soldier, Ali Ekberi, was handed over to Red Cross officials at mount Kandil on 6th of Novemeber 2007.

The soldier has been treated well and in accordance with the Geneva Convention during his captivity. He has been in our custody for two months.

The release of the soldier came after efforts from the Red Cross and other international organizations.

We, PJAK want a peaceful and democratic solution to the conflict, but unfortunately the Iranian regime does not take any steps to solve it. On the contrary, Iran has answered our calls for a peaceful solution with further military operations and oppression against the Kurdish people.

The Iranian regime has also arrested Kurdish journalists and members of different Kurdish NGO's in the last year.

We urge the International community to interfere and to not keep silent towards Iran's treatment of the Kurds.
