ARBIL, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- Iraqi President Jalal Talabani here Friday ruled out a
Turkish military intervention inside Iraq's Kurdistan region.
Talabani was speaking at a news conference upon return from Paris, saying "I
rule out a Turkish military intervention in Iraq's Kurdistan region." The US
will not condone any military operation in Kurdistan region with the goal of
chasing PKK elements, he claimed.
He added that Washington had recently dispatched several delegations to Turkey
in order to obtain an assurance from Turkey that it would not launch any
military campaign in Kurdistan.
Earlier, Talabani told a joint news conference with French Foreign Minister
Bernard Kouchner in Paris that the Iraqi army was unable to fight the PKK as it
was totally busy imposing security in Baghdad and combating terror in the
country.
