Ankara Declines
Permission for "Zagros Kurd Air" To Fly Over Turkish Air Space
Turkish Hurriyet
Oct 5, 2007
Turkey has failed to give permission to private German charter airline Hamburg
International to allow flights flying under the name "Zagros Kurd Air" to cross
Turkish air space on their way to Erbil in Southern Kurdistan.
Authorities from Hamburg International did confirm that the flights, set to
leave from Frankfurt and Munich in early October, had been cancelled, though
they declined to give detailed information on the reasons. Meanwhile,
authorities in Ankara confirmed also that permission had not been given for the
flights, stating that the reason was that in the past, the same flight run by
Hamburg International had been announced as "Kurdistan Airlines" in the German
airports from which it was taking off, and that for this reason, the decision
had been made not to grant access to Turkish air space this time around.
