Kurdish MP attends World Bank Conference

Representing the Iraqi Parliament; Kurd, Salar
Doski, MP, participated in the Annual conference of the Parliamentary Network of
the World Bank (PNoWB). As the first Kurd to ever participate in this
conference, Salar Doski and 200 other parliamentarians from 96 countries joined
forces to discuss pressing global issues including aid effectiveness, trade,
climate change, Africa, and debt relief. Hosted by the Parliament of Finland, on
October, 21-23 2005, the annual conference is organized by PNoWB, in
collaboration with the World Bank, the Finnish Parliament and Finland’s Ministry
of Foreign Affairs
Speaking on the goals of the World Bank, Paul
Wolfowitz,, World Bank President, emphasized that factors outside
the sphere of economics, such as the civil society, the
system of justice, administrative culture, and the position of women need to be
in shape if developing countries are to prosper.
Titled “Beyond the Year of Development: What
Now?” The Parliamentary Network on the World Bank (PNoWB) annual conference
seeks to identify what parliamentarians can do to promote action on development
and global issues, and help to strengthen the accountability and transparency of
international financial institutions. |
