Whole Country"
Turkish Hurriyet
Sep 12, 2007
President Abdullah Gul, on his first domestic trip since becoming formally
elected president by the Turkish Parliament (TBMM), started off by heading for
the Southeast city of Wan yesterday, where he received a warm welcome.
Gul spoke yesterday to a gathering of civil society organizations, delivering
the message that "Our differences make us richer, I will be a president for all
of the people....." Gul also touched on his perception of Wan itself, which is a
largely Kurdish populated city not far from Turkey's borders with Iraq: "Every
corner of this country is the same for me. I am the president of my whole
country. I will work to ensure that every area of the country receives equal
services." President Gul will spend tonight at the Turkish military's base in
Wan.
