Baghdad - An Iraqi security source said Thursday that Kurdish Peshmerga forces
had been deployed in Gulaa area in Baquba to chase armed groups and restore
security in the city.
The deployment of the forces followed coordination with the US forces to
maintain security in Gulaa area, which is near the Kurdish autonomous region,
the source added.
On June 19, joint Iraq-US forces had launched in Diyala province a security
operation targeting al-Qaeda militants in Iraq.
Baquba, the capital of Diyala province, is 60 kilometres north-east the Iraqi
capital Baghdad.
