Sep 22, 2005

Al Hayat

The Kurdish politician Mahmoud Othman has considered that the situation of the president Jalal Talebani with regard to the American acceleration against Syria is "the objective and appropriate stand of the Iraqi situation."

In response to a question by Al Hayat on the existence of paradox of situations between the Iraqi republic presidency and the Syrian premiership, Othman said, "Talabani depends on the policy of not being driven into the Syrian-American conflict in the region." He added, "The other situations, which are characterized with inflexibility and hostility, are not right, as during the regime of the late president Hafez Al Asad, Damascus has supported the Iraqi opposition.

In addition, President Bashar Al Asad has adopted the same situation." Othman disclosed that the Iraqi government and the Americans have received an invitation to visit the borders zone and witness the taken measures to control the borders so as to prevent sneakers from entering Iraq.

Othman believed that Damascus "is serious and truthful in the offer that it presented to the Iraqi and American officials to witness its noticeable measures on the borders between the two countries, as Damascus does not desire to be exposed to more pressures."
