Turkish Authorities Obstruct Swedish Delegation's Planned Trip to Southern Kurdistan

Kurdistan Observer

Aug 13, 2002

According to sources within the Nordic Office of the KRG, a Swedish delegation consisting of Ms. Lott Nilsson-Hedström, former head of the Green Party, Ms Yvonne Ruwaida, MP, Jabar Amin, an MP candidate, Ann-Margret Mossberg, and Jakob Denker, the Geen party's foreign policy expert, had set out to travel from Sweden to Southern Kurdistan.  However, the Turkish authorities have obstructed their travel plans. This incident has apparently captured the attention of Swedish media.

This incident also appears to be indicative of the increasing rift between Turkey and Southern Kurdistan as the Turks are increasingly distraught by the advances made by the people of Southern Kurdistan toward self-governance.
