Barzani Asserts Completion Of Constitution With Sunnis' Participation

IRBIL,(Southern Kurdistan) July 20 (KUNA) -- President of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq Masaud Barzani asserted on Thursday that the process of creating the Iraqi constitution was completed with the participation of Sunnis.

Barzani made his statement during a meeting with a high-ranking delegation from the General Conference of Sunnis, which included representatives from the Sunni Waqf, Iraqi Islamic Party, Authority of Islamic Scientists, in addition to Sufi and secular figures.

Barzani stressed the importance of benefiting from the elections' experience, avoiding its mistakes, and encouraging Sunni Iraqis to participate in the next Iraqi elections and the political process in Iraq.

He also asserted that the constitution creation process was completed on the assigned date with the participation of Sunnis, stressing the importance of including federalism in the constitution as it means reorganizing the state, not separatism.

On the issue of Kirkuk, Barzani asserted the importance of this issue due to its sensitivity, noting that the Kurdistan people are concerned about normalizing situation in the province.

On terrorism and sabotage acts, Barzani demanded the General Conference of Sunnis to take a clear stand toward what is being practiced against people from other religions and sects.
