Baydemir: Kurdish Should Be Tauhgt At
Common Schools
DIYARBAKIR (DIHA) - July 19, 2005-
Metropolitan Mayor of Diyarbakır Osman Baydemir, stating it is not possible to
improve Kurdish only by means of private courses, said Kurdish should be tauhgt
at official schools and supported in public domains.
Metropolitan Mayor Baydemir, Mayor of Yenişehir Fırat Anlı and
Director-General of the Diyarbakır Water and Canalization Affairs Veysi Ayus
have examined infrastructural project carried out for 450 Evler Mahallesi.
Baydemir, after receiving information from the experts, said they made
infrastructural works in 18 separate fields of Diyarbakır." We will have
finished a 2-km-pipeline and the intermediary connections 7200 meters at length
in 10 days. Subsequently, landscape and block pavement are both to be built by
Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality". The metropolitan mayor also underlined
that the metropolitan municipality would continue to providing municipal
services at full pelt.
'Kurdish should be supported in public domains'
To a question concerning the news that Private Batman Kurdish Course was
closed, Baydemir said " To be able to keep our languages and cultural
possessions those languages spoken in Turkey apart form Turkish or Kurdish
should be boosted in public domains; otherwise, it is not possible to make
Kurdish and like languages come alive. Therefore, Kurdish should definitely be
taught at official schools. People should have the chance to be able to learn
Kurdish. Moreover, Kurdish should be given as an elective course in western
cities. To maintain a language a language, which has been ignored for decades,
is not possible with private courses"
'Right to exist is holy'
To another question about Coşkun Kırandi, a soldier from Trabzon who was
intercepted and detained by HPG forces, Baydemir said neither his right to exist
nor his safety of life should be harmed.He should be handed over to his family
as soon as possible. There is a need to an environment with peace and without
conflicts for our humans can leave in peace and at ease.
When asked ''Why did you not put your signature on a declaration prepared in
relation to the kill of Hikmet Fidan?", Baydemir said, "I have not heard
anything of such a statement, however, there is no legitimate side of violation
of the right to exist."
