Saddam Interrogated For Crimes Against Faylee Kurds

BAGHDAD, July 21 (KUNA) -- Head of the former Iraqi regime Saddam Hussein was interrogated on Thursday for crimes of extermination and extradition against Faylee Kurds.

In statements to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the tribunal's Judge Munir Haddad said that accusing Saddam of these crimes is in accordance with article 12 of the criminal court.

Saddam, in the presence of his lawyer Khalil Al-Dulaymi, said this accusation is a political scheme instigated by Kurds and Shiites, adding that he never practiced any form of segregation between Iraqis. Saddam accused the current Iraqi government of being "an agent appointed by the US," but was told by the judge that the current government was elected by the people.

As Saddam claimed that he has only met his lawyer right before the interrogation, the judge said that Saddam had conversed with Al-Dulaymi for more than an hour and a half before the hearing.

Saddam requested the presence of scores of lawyers prepared to defend him.
