President Of Southern Kurdistan Chairs a
Meeting Between PUK and KDP
June 27, 2005
The President of Southern Kurdistan Barzani
chaired a meeting between the two high party officials, PUK and KDP, in
Salahedin, reported KDP's
TV station yesterday.
"We have discussed the constitution issue, the
unification of the two administrations. We are trying to set up a body here to
take charge of and review the files pertaining the
Iraqi permanent constitution, said Mr. Barzani. He added "We have agreed upon
the form of federalism. It will be a historical and geographical federalism. The
structure of Iraq will be based on the voluntary coexistence of the Kurds and
the Arabs.
"Merger of two administrations is not an easy
job to be carried out in a day or two. It needs technical committees and certain
procedures have to take place. However, the government will be reunited, and
that is for sure, said the PUK deputy Secretary-General
Noshirwan Mustafa
The head of the KDP-led Kurdistan regional
government Nechirvan Barzani said that the president
of Southern Kurdistan will have a key role in the reunification of the two
administrations.
"If you remember, I have told you recently that
this might need further talks, but we will reach an outcome, and we have. I
still can reaffirm that further talks might be needed. However, we will
definitely reach an agreement. Unquestionably, for the two sides, whether the
KDP or the PUK, or any other parties in Kurdistan, the key condition for our
success is unity and consensus. Therefore, we are all aware of the importance of
the unity of the Kurdish ranks. Moreover, us and the
PUK are particularly aware that though further talks, negotiations or meetings
might be needed, nevertheless we will reach an agreement and the Kurdistan
coalition government will be formed inevitably, said Nechirvan Barzani, reported
