Kurdish Parliament Endorses Barzani As President Of Southern Kurdistan

The National Assembly of Kurdistan today endorsed the draft law of the presidency, which was submitted by the two Kurdish parties, the KDP and PUK.

The draft law stipulates that Massoud Barzani shall assume the presidency of Southern Kurdistan for four years. The Presidency Law also stipulates that the citizens of Southern Kurdistan shall elect in a direct and secret ballot a president for the region who represents them and speaks in their name on the local and foreign levels.

The president shall also oversee coordination between Iraqi authorities and the authorities in Southern Kurdistan.
