Barzani to become President of the librated region of Southern Kurdistan.

Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani is to head Southern Kurdistan after a deal with his longtime rival, Iraq's new President Jalal Talabani, a Kurdish official said Sunday, reported AFP. The regional parliament will also meet on June 4 for the first time since the January elections, the official told AFP.  After years of political discord between Talabani and Barzani, the two agreed at a meeting on Saturday that Barzani should rule Southern Kurdistan for the next four years, the official said.

The Turkish regime Wednesday passed an ammendment paving the way for authorities to restrict contacts between Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan and his lawyers. Turkish regime  would be empowered to appoint an official to attend meetings between prisoners and their lawyers and examine and confiscate documents that they wish to exchange, reported AFP.

A Kurdish official escaped a car bomb attack on his convoy on Monday, but five people were killed in the attack, reported Xinhuanet  . The attack took place at Tuz Khurmatu town, south of Kirkuk. Muhammed Jigareti, a senior official of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), survived the blast, but about 18 others were wounded.

More than 10,000 Kurds are demonstrated in Qamoshli, Western Kurdistan as a result of the kidnapping of Sheikh Khaznawi, a respected Sufi cleric that disappeared 10 days ago. The Syrian regime has issued a communiquι denying any involvement or the whereabouts of the Kurdish Sheikh. Reform Part of Syria reported last week.

Jalal Talabani headed to Southern Kurdistan to holding talks with Mr. Barzani to put order back into the Kurdish house. "The talks will focus on differences which emerged between PUK and KDP,"  said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity, reported UPI.  Differences between the two rival Kurdish leaders led to postponing the inauguration of the new Kurdish parliament for several months. "The talks will be aimed at settling the differences once and for all and fixing a date for the parliament`s inauguration," the source added.

US says 30 killed by car bomber at funeral. A car bomb exploded at the funeral for a Kurdish official in Southern Kurdistan on Sunday, killing about 30 Kurds and wounding more than 50, the US military said.  The attack occurred in the city of Tal Afar, the deputy provincial governor and a spokesman for the Kurdish Democratic Party. Goran said a suicide attacker detonated a car packed with explosives in a large tent where the funeral was being held. But the US military said it was not a suicide attack

A Kurdish separatist group on Sunday claimed responsibility for a bomb attack in a western Turkish resort town that killed a police officer, reported Reuters. A spokesman for the Kurdistan Liberation Hawks (TAK) was quoted as telling the Europe-based Mezopotamya News Agency that the TAK was behind the bomb blast in Kusadasi on Saturday.
