DIYARBAKIR, Turkey The police have detained nearly 100 people in southeastern
Turkey after protests flared on the third anniversary of the capture of
a Kurdish separatist leader, Abdullah Ocalan, security officials said Friday.

Five people were hurt in the town of Siirt and 50 were detained Thursday.
Guerrillas allied with Ocalan's Kurdistan Workers Party have waged an armed
struggle for self-rule in the mainly Kurdish southeast since 1984. The
violence has claimed more than 30,000 lives. |
