Kurds And US Deny the Presence of American Experts In Southern Kurdistan

(The Kurdistan Observer) Feb 28, 2002. Reports suggest that US military
experts were exploring the site of three air bases in Southern Kurdistan, reported Al-Hayat yesterday.

Although the US government and the two Kurdish parties, the KDP and
PUK, denied the revelation, other sources asserted, according to Al-Hayat, that a delegation made up of 7 US army officers working for the Central Intelligent Agency, CIA, visited Bamerne airport in Duhok province to assess its possible use by the US Airforce in the future.  The delegation also, visited two  additional sites, one in Qara Chog and the other in a region bordering Northern Kurdistan.
