They Tried to Kill Dr. Barham Salih -- Now They Want to Kill His Name
by:Shilan Jabari Bshilan_jabari73@yahoo.com Kurdistan
Observer
I'm an avid reader of both Kurdish Media and the Kurdistan Observer -- To me, it serves more then a news-outlet, its my connection to my beloved Kurdistan. Unfortunately, it can also be used as a tool to build animosity among Kurds, rehash old hatreds and most dangerous of them all -- be used by the enemies of the Kurds to spread outright lies and fallacies, as we have seen in the brutal and savage character assassination of Dr. Barham Salih. There are some important questions that needs to be addressed. The enemy of the Kurds tried to physically assassinate Prime Minister Barham Salih, but failed miserably, and this latest attempt to politically assassination Dr. Barham will also meet the same fate as their terrorist co-conspirators -- which is failure. I'm sure they didn't realize that non-partisan nationalist Kurds such as myself would be disgusted and shocked over their unimpressive usage of their thesaurus to find derogatory wordings in their illogical attack on every self-respecting Kurd. After both the clarification by the Kurdistan Regional Government and Amberin Zaman's letter to KurdishMedia.com why are the letters of defamation still on the sites, or better yet, why hasn't the authors and the sites that have posted these slanderous articles have not apologized to Prime Minister Barham Salih? We now have reached a stage where we need to ask our selves some very important questions. Those who used nationalistic tones to justify their criminal slander against Dr. Barham Salih are awfully quiet. What must be done? To rectify their blunder, I implore both the Kurdistan Observer and the Kurdish Media news sites to write a statement clarifying the chronology of events starting with what has happened and ending with the retracting of all articles that were slanderous and equivalent to a political assassination attempt on the integrity and the good name of Prime Minister Barham Salih. Measured steps must be taken in the future by the mentioned news sites to make sure such horrendous acts of slanders are not to be repeated. A simple e-mail to the Prime Minister, his office or a phone call to the news source could have saved both the Kurdistan Regional Government and the news sites a tremendous amount of time and headaches for all parties involved. Who would gain from defaming Dr. Barham Salih? Dr. Barham Salih, as Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government has effectivly challenged the enemies of the Kurdish nation. As Prime Minister of the KRG, he has efficiently put together a strong, competent and efficient Cabinet that has been able to clearly and strongly articulate the demands of the Kurdish nation. His management tactics in dealing with the United Nations and improved bilateral KRG - UN relations has disturbed the boys in Baghdad. Now, the UN must deal with a man who is well rehearsed in International affairs, a man who has spent the last 11 years as the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's top diplomat. A man who has created, paved and reinforced the bridge between Kurdistan and the West. This is why several plans and an attempt on his life has been planned and carried out since taking charge of the Kurdistan Regional Government. Dr. Barham Salih, as a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's Polit Bureau and as Prime Minister has always supported an line of peace. Respected and admired by all mainstream Kurdish political parties and nationalist Kurds. So who would benefit from the charichtor assassination of Dr. Barham Salih? The list is long, but rest assured no one but the enemy of the Kurds would benefit from attacking Dr. Barham Salih political integrity. Why would they target Dr. Barham Salih? The answer is simple, Dr. Barham Salih, as mentioned earlier has been nothing more then a visionary of the Kurdish Political Renaissance -- He has championed the plight of Kurdish IDPs, irrespective of which occupied city they are from. Reading from the bulk of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's Press Releases on Baghdad's Ethnic-Cleansing policy, most were released by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's Washington DC office (which was headed by Dr. Barham Salih). As Prime Minister Dr. Barham Salih has championed not only the plight of Internal Kurdish refugees from Kirkuk and Khanaqin -- but also gender equality. Dr. Barham Salih has sworn in the first female Judge in the Ministery of Law, Dr. Barham Salih lobbied for law reforms criminalizing polygamy and honor killings before taking over the Kurdistan Regional Government, and as Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Dr. Barham Salih has adopted an aggressive approach in voicing the voiceless cries of thousands of Kurds who have been forcefully evicted from their homes in Kirkuk and other Kurdish cities targeted for Arabization by the government of Iraq. What have we learned from this? Sadly, we have seen that some of our Kurdish brothers were a little to eager to believe the hype that was intentionally created to destroy the good name of a good man. We have learned to practice more patience, to put our faith into the hands of our modern and educated leaders. We have learned that there are still some elements in the Kurds of both Diaspora and in our homeland that have not learned to put Kurdish unity ahead of personal hatreds. We have also learned that we still have people who are trying to politically ambush Dr. Barham Salih for personal political gains at every opportunity possible. We
have also learned that Dr. Barham Salih, the Kurdistan Regional Government
and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in serving the Kurdish nation must
fight tooth and nail to secure the God given rights of the Kurdish people.
I'm sure these little
