*Iran Encourages PKK to Sustain Armed Struggle

(The Kurdistan Observer) Mar 9, 2002. A report prepared by the Turkish security intelligence revealed that ties between the Iranian government and the Kurdistan Worker's Pary (PKK) are still maintained, reported Al-Zamman yesterday.

The Turkish report suggested that Iranian security agents met several times with PKK members aimed to instigate PKK forces to resume their armed struggle
against Turkey.

The source added that on Feb 18, the Iranians held a meeting with PKK officials in Ormiya city in Eastern Kurdistan.  The two sides discussed several topics including their future bilateral relations, PKK's request to open a third hospital in Ormiya and the  new situation in the region.

The report indicated that the Iranian government is trying to convince the PKK that to reach their goals the PKK should carry out military operations rather than adopting their new strategy of political struggle.
