*Iraq Resumes Campaign of Terrorism in Kurdistan

(The Kurdistan Observer) May 10, 2002. A reliable source within the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) told the Kurdistan Observer today that the Iraqi regime has resumed its campaign of terrorism in the liberated areas of Southern Kurdistan, aimed at destabilizing the relative peace and prosperity in the region.

The source indicated that the KRG security forces have arrested four people at the border lines with Iraqi-controlled territories attempting to smuggle 234 Kg of TNT into the town of Kalar.  An initial investigation suggested that the suspects were planning to explode several vital economic structures and the headquarters of humanitarian organizations serving Kurdistan.

The source said that Iraqi agents have attempted on several occasions to bring
smaller explosives into Southern Kurdistan to create havoc among the  population.  Over the past week, a number of incidents have taken place in which public servants have been maimed by explosive devices, believed to planted by Iraqi agents.
