K.D.P. Officials Zebari And Barzani To Come To Ankara

Anadolu Agency

Oct 17, 2002

ANKARA - Hosyar Zebari and Necirvan Barzani, two Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) officials will have contacts in Ankara.

A KDP official said on Thursday that the visit of Zebari, the KDP official in charge of international relations and Barzani, the nephew of KDP leader Massaud Barzani and KDP official in charge of regional administration is expected to take place next week.

The KDP official said that the visit would take place within the scope of the decision taken by the sides to hold direct meetings about developments, during the visit of Zebari to Ankara 1.5 months ago.

Issues such as the Kurdish parliament, representation of Turkmens and draft of federal constitution are expected to be taken up during KDP officials' meeting in Ankara.

Zebari had conveyed the message of Barzani who said that ''we don't want to escalate tension in relations with Turkey,'' during his last visit to Ankara he paid after the meeting of Iraqi opposition leaders in Washington D.C.

While the developments in Northern Iraq are on the agenda of Ankara, Foreign Ministry stated on Wednesday about the last statement of Barzani that ''if the goal in those statements is to 'intimidate', I am unwilling to use the word 'threaten', the Turkish state and public, who contributed to the well-being of Northern Iraqi Kurdish community, this is an extremely inappropriate and irrelevant approach which Northern Iraqi Kurdish community would not adopt and consider it beneficial for their own interests.''
