Repression on DEHAP Increased

A group of fascists reportedly came to a shipping firm in Maltepe, Istanbul and attacked on people present there. Their justification was that there was a DEHAP poster there. The group knifed DEHAP member Yakup Oguz Timur and destroyed the place. Then they fled on foot.

Again in Istanbul a group of MHP (a fascist party) activists attacked against a DEHAP vehicle touring in the city. As a result driver Huseyin Isik was injured and windshield of the car was broken. Isύk was taken under treatment in Kartal State Hospital and one of the perpetrators was arrested.

DEHAP convoy was stopped

In Gevas, Van DEHAP activists were not given permission to go to Yemislik Village by village guards. Guards closed the road by tree trunks, saying that they had given orders by soldiers. DEHAP members could not learn the name of the commander who had given the order.

And in Saray district of Van 3 people including DEHAP district accountant were detained while they were waiting to welcome DEHAP convoy. Former HADEP district chairman Mehmet Keskin, former district administrator Abdulkadir Ates and district accountant Yusuf Bilici were detained by gendarme forces without any apparent reason.

Cotton workers detained in Derik

In Derik district of Mardin 52 cotton workers were detained on the grounds that they chanted slogans in favor of DEHAP. Following the DEHAP meeting there, a number of people including the 52 cotton workers were detained. The workers were then released.

"3 votes for DEHAP"

In Hakkari military officials reportedly warned village guards, saying that in case that there were more than 3 votes for DEHAP in every village, their weapons would be confiscated.

Akcali and Yeni Kopru (Oramar), Yesiltas and Daglica villages were warned by military officials. The military officials reportedly said that they might force people to vote openly. And village guards from Gecitli went to all villages to warn villagers not to vote for DEHAP.

Village guards fired

On the other hand Beytussebap (Sirnak) residents and its Mayor Sukru Ozkan were reportedly threatened by local administrator Adil Karatas who said "Do not vote for DEHAP. In case that there is even a vote for DEHAP we will know what to do". Beytussebap people has welcome DEHAP convoy going to Sirnak meeting.

Karatas has met with heads of village guards and leaders of tribes two times within two days and fired 10 village guards from Elemin, Dirman and Aros villages who had participated in the DEHAP convoy the other day.
