Unity is the only correct reaction to the slaughter of Kurdish innocence on The Kurdish Sacrifice Sunday

The terrorist murderous assaults of the first of February 2004 on the innocent Moslem Kurdish civilians gathered to celebrate their Islamic Festive of Sacrifice in the podiums of Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan headquarters in Erbil, the capital of Iraqi-Kurdistan, must not be seen as attacks on only these two political parties, but as direct assaults on the Kurdish nation and its aspiration for a federated Kurdistan in peaceful coexistence with all the peoples of Iraq and regional nations. The grieving heart of the Kurdish nation stands in an angry silence for those of its children who have been murdered by this treacherous violent and mindless act.

In death we honour all our brethrens with the same grieving hearts; yet the death of Sami Abdullrehman, Shewket Shiekh Ezdin, Shakhewan, Ekrem Mintik, Mehdi Xoshnaw, Ahmad Rozhbayany, Khesro Sheare, General Neriman, Saed Abdulla, Mehmood Halo and their many comrades in KDP and PUK, the best of our bests, has a special impact on our hearts and minds. These were men who spent their life times relentlessly fighting on both the battle and the political fronts for a better future for our Kurdish and Kurdistani nation. Thus they have become to each and all of us equal to the nearest and dearest of our kindred. Their demise is to each of us a personal heartbreak and loss. To take avenge the death of these men on they day of the Islamic Festive of Sacrifice is to avenge the Kurdish nation.

This latest of terrorist assaults on the Kurdish nation proves, if prove were needed, that the enemies of Kurdistan are ready to commit any sacrilege and reach unimaginable baseness to bring our nation down to its knees. Our enemies are incessantly attacking. They are the same old enemies, now under Islamic cloaks, yesterday in Socialist and Communist disguise, everyday in their patriotic costume and soon even in liberal democratic guise. They are against us even if we were in Argentina. Out of power, they sweet talk to us and once they sniff power declare us the enemy of God. The Kurdish nation needs to rise to the challenges expressed by the terrorist gauntlets thrown at it again, and again. Empty threats and grand promises are but narcotics that deliver the Kurdish nation to the slaughterhouses of its enemies. Urgent action is imperative.

There is one and only one action that would be equal to the level of the challenges facing Kurdistan. There is only one and only one action that stands the chance of saving the Kurdish nation from death and destruction and defeating the alliance of evil. There is one and only one action to prevent future Anfals and WMD attacks on the Kurdish people. The single action on par to all these challenges is unity. To deliver the first blow, the Kurdish governments should unite into one national government today and not tomorrow; the two Kurdish military forces and military academies should come under on national command today and not tomorrow; the two Kurdish intelligence services should become one today and not tomorrow. Above all the new national security should turn its activities towards the external enemies of the nation and not spy and report individual party allegiances.

I for one have always appreciated the difficulties and restrains within which Kurdish politicians from KDP and PUK have had to move. I have like most levelheaded people have admired their tenacity and guile. But I believe that I am not far from any other Kurdish person’s sentiment when I say we have run out of excuses and forgiveness. We cry out "Unite. Unite. The time is ripe for thousand parties and opinions, but one parliament, one judiciary, one government, one army, one national security and all today and not tomorrow".
