Ankara unhappy Regarding the Latest Agreement Between KDP and PUK

TDN

Sep 10, 2002

The Turkish state owned Anatolia News Agency said, "There are elements in the agreement announced in Erbil that has annoyed Ankara."

The agency quoting unidentified "diplomatic sources" said Ankara was irked with the news that Talabani had forged an agreement with Barzani "who has made tough statements against Turkey."

The agency quoted sources saying the news that the regional Parliament will convene has further fueled Ankara's concerns that a Kurdish state is in the making. It said Ankara would not permit such a development.

It also said Ankara was concerned because Talabani and Barzani had referred to the Washington process but had not mentioned the Ankara process.

The Anatolia also said diplomatic sources stated Ankara was also unhappy that the Turkomans who are the third largest ethnic people in Iraq were sidelined in the agreement.

The state owned agency said Ankara was studying the Kurdish agreement and would make a reaction in due course.
